The government has recently announced a new policy regarding the reporting of old invoices on the e-invoice IRP portal. This policy will only apply to taxpayers with AATO greater than or equal to 100 crores. Under this policy, there will be a time limit for reporting old invoices, specifically a limit of 7 days from the date of the invoice. This time limit will only apply to the document type invoice, and there will be no time restriction on reporting debit/credit notes.
For instance, if an invoice is dated April 1, 2023, it cannot be reported after April 8, 2023. The validation system integrated into the invoice registration portal will restrict the user from reporting the invoice after the 7-day window. Therefore, it is crucial for taxpayers falling under this category to report their invoices within the 7-day window to ensure compliance.
It is essential to note that there will be no such restriction for taxpayers with AATO less than 100 crores as of now. Thus, smaller taxpayers can report invoices that are older than 7 days on the date of reporting without any issues.
To comply with this new requirement, taxpayers are advised to make the necessary changes to their systems. The government will implement this policy from 01.05.2023 onwards, providing sufficient time for taxpayers to comply.
In conclusion, the government's decision to impose a time limit on reporting old invoices on the e-invoice IRP portal aims to streamline the invoicing process and ensure timely compliance. Taxpayers are encouraged to take note of this new policy and report their invoices within the stipulated time limit to avoid penalties and ensure smooth business operations.
