The telecommunications industry in Malaysia is undergoing a transformative shift with the adoption of electronic invoicing (e-invoice) which is going to be live from Aug 1st, 2024. To ensure a smooth transition, the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN/IRBM) has recently published industry-specific FAQs. In this article, we will delve into the practical applications of e-invoicing in various business operations and highlight how Taxilla can facilitate seamless compliance.
1. Adjustment to the Bill Statement:
In cases of billing errors, promotional offers, or necessary refunds due to service outages, telecom operators can adjust amounts in the next billing cycle or issue credit/debit/refund invoices.

2. Sale of Prepaid Plans:
Currently telecom operators sell prepaid plans either through agents or retail operators who would onwards sell this plan to end consumers.
Upon implementation of eInvoice, the telecom operators will continue to issue e-invoices to agents or retailers for the sale of prepaid plans.
3. Rental Premises:
Often telecom operators rent real estate from landlords to provide their services or business operation.
If the landlord is a registered company, then telecom operator must request for eInvoices from the landlord. If the landlord is an individual who is not conducting any business, then the telecom operator must assume the role of issuer and issue self-billing invoice in order substantiate the transaction for tax purposes.
4. Add-On Services:
